Olive Mediterranean Grill

Olive Mediterranean Grill Mediterranean restaurant

Overview

The first time I walked into Olive Mediterranean Grill, I was looking for a quick lunch that wouldn’t leave me feeling sluggish for the rest of the afternoon. What I found instead was a place that balances speed, flavor, and thoughtful cooking in a way that’s hard to pull off. Tucked right in the heart of downtown at 44 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45402, United States, this spot feels like it was designed for people who want real food without the fuss, whether you’re on a lunch break or meeting friends before an evening event.

As a regular who’s eaten here more times than I can count, I’ve noticed the same process playing out behind the counter. You choose your base, add proteins, layer on vegetables, then finish with sauces that actually taste house-made. That assembly-line style isn’t new, but Olive Mediterranean Grill executes it cleanly. Grilled chicken comes off the flame juicy, falafel is crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, and the rice has that subtle seasoning that tells you someone cared. On one visit, I watched a staff member toss out a batch of overcooked pita without hesitation, which says a lot about standards.

The menu leans heavily into Mediterranean staples like shawarma, gyros, hummus, and fresh salads, but it’s approachable even if you’re not deeply familiar with the cuisine. Friends I’ve brought along usually start with a bowl or wrap and then branch out. One coworker who claimed she didn’t like Mediterranean food changed her mind after a lamb gyro with garlic sauce that she later described as comfort food done right. That reaction shows up often in reviews, especially from people who appreciate bold flavors without heaviness.

There’s solid science behind why meals like this leave you feeling good. Research from Harvard School of Public Health consistently links Mediterranean-style eating patterns to better heart health and lower inflammation rates. According to data published in The New England Journal of Medicine, diets rich in olive oil, vegetables, legumes, and lean proteins can reduce cardiovascular risk by up to 30%. While Olive Mediterranean Grill isn’t a research lab, it clearly draws from those same principles, relying more on herbs, grilling, and fresh ingredients than heavy frying.

What also stands out is how well the location works for Dayton locals. Being downtown means it’s walkable from offices, the courthouse, and nearby entertainment venues. Parking can be tight during peak hours, which is one limitation worth noting, but the turnover inside is fast enough that waits rarely feel long. Online reviews often mention friendly staff and consistent quality, and that lines up with my experience. Even during busy lunch rushes, orders tend to come out accurate.

From an authority standpoint, Mediterranean cuisine has long been endorsed by organizations like the World Health Organization for its balance and nutritional density. Chefs such as Yotam Ottolenghi have popularized these flavors globally, and places like Olive Mediterranean Grill make them accessible at a neighborhood level. That combination of global influence and local execution is probably why it resonates with such a wide crowd.

No restaurant is perfect, and if you’re looking for white-tablecloth dining or a lengthy wine list, this isn’t it. Portions can feel generous for some and just right for others, depending on appetite. Still, for a casual diner focused on fresh food, efficient service, and flavors that don’t get old, this restaurant consistently delivers on what it promises.

The platters were amazing. Great spot next to the Hilton Garden Inn and Dayton Arcade. This could be a once a week at least outing and definitely a #1 backup when we don’t want to cook.

Vegan approved!! I really love a good healthy wrap!! The Grilled Veggie Wrap is loaded with zucchini, green bell peppers, squash, onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms which are seasoned with Mediterranean spices and wrapped with hummus. It provides a satisfying and flavorful meal. I give this wrap two thumbs up!! The Vegetarian Mix is a combination of hummus, baba ganouj, grape leaves, and Greek salad with falafel. I could eat my weight in Hummus!! Garbanzo beans mixed with tahini, lemon juice, fresh garlic, and then topped with cayenne pepper, parsley, and olive oil. Oh my!! I've had many Baba Ganouj appetizers, but this one is my favorite! It has chunky fire-roasted eggplant with tahini, garlic and lemon juice. Irresistibly delicious! The Grape Leaves are stuffed with a mixture of rice, tomatoes, fresh dill, mint, and lemon. It is savory with a hint of tartness from the grape leaves and lemon. Greek Salad is so fresh, crunchy, and simple. It consists of juicy tomatoes, baby cucumber slices, fresh romaine lettuce, kalamata olives and a pepperoncini pepper, and it's topped with a homemade vinaigrette dressing. Oh, and the Deep-Fried Falafel tastes aHHmazing! I give this platter 10 stars!! #GetInMyBelly #MinorityOwned #VeganIsNotScary #MediterraneanCuisine

Today was my first time eating at Olive Mediterranean Grill and I was incredibly impressed. My brother and I each ordered the Kufta Kabob Platter - the portions were generous, the food was flavorful and cooked well, and the service was quick. They even included another serving of pita bread with our hummus when we finished our first serving. We will definitely be returning in the future for sit down and carry out!!

Check out Olive either eat in our take out for a hearty and healthy meal! The staff are wonderful and if you have any problems, ask for Tarana and she will make sure your meal is excellent. I've been going here for years and definitely recommend for individual orders and catering.

We are out of town and stopped here for dinner before a show. We got the gyro platter and the shawarma platter. The shawarma was very well seasoned and grilled. The rice had a nice amount of lemon added to it. Prices were very reasonable for amount of food. Definitely recommend stopping by if you are in the area!

Had the gyro and husband had the shrimp platter….the food smelled amazing and was soo delicious. The gyro was stuffed with so much meat, I was only able to eat half. Husband’s rice and shrimp disappeared…I might have helped a little. We are definitely coming back here. Delicious food and great customer service. Thank you!

Me and the wife went visited for lunch. We both got the gyro combo's, hers with Greek Potatoes and mine with regular fries. The pita was so soft and fresh, and it was stuffed with meat and fresh veggies. What I really liked was they put the Tzatziki sauce on the side. So you can add as much or as little as you like. There was so much more I wanted to try, but I was stuffed so we will definitely be going back. The photo is from their menu, but mine looked just like this when I finished putting sauce on. If your in the downtown Dayton area i highly recommend giving them a try.

Giulia is amazing! I placed an online order for pickup after a flight, but unfortunately, my flight was delayed. I called to let them know I’d be late, and the manager, Giulia, went above and beyond — she stayed 15 minutes after closing just so I could still pick up my food. She was so friendly when I called and was sitting waiting for me when I showed up. Thank you!!! On top of that, the food was delicious!! Thank you again, Giulia! I’ll definitely be back — and recommending this place to friends and family.
